Emily Couto

Emily was born in Surrey, England before moving to Calgary. She attended at the University of Calgary graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She returned to England to complete law school at the University of Surrey in Guildford. During her time at the University of Surrey, Emily completed internships at Basingstoke & Deane’s local government office and with Burke Niazi Solicitors in London focusing on mental health and family law. Emily graduated from the University of Surrey with an Upper Second-Class Honours degree in 2019.

Emily completed her exams with the National Accreditation Committee within 6 months of returning to Canada and commenced her articles at a boutique all-service law firm where she focused her area of practice on Family Law and Employment Law. She was called to the Alberta Bar in December 2021 and has worked for boutique firms focusing on family law. Emily aims to settle matters amicably but understands that the judicial system can be a necessity for some families. She is a passionate advocate for her clients representing them at trials, Special Hearings, and Morning Chambers.

Outside of the office, Emily loves to travel and can generally be found planning her next adventure.
